Triumph 2 & HPT435 BT Pairing

We recently sent our Triumph-2 in for the Base Guard update. I am trying to set up the base and I cannot get the Triumph-2 to pair with the external radio (HPT435BT). How do I get the bluetooth to pair?

You should be prompted to pair a radio when you enter the UHF Configuration screen in Base/Rover Setup. The USB option will need to be used so plug the radio into the LS with the USB cable.

It can also be paired with Netview & Modem. Pages 42 and 43 of its manual explain how to do this.

If you did not unpair your radio before sending your T2 to the factory then you will need to hook your radio up to modemview and unpair the radio first. Then you can do as described by Matt in Jfield.

I have not downloaded the last 2 updates, so the last 5 months +/-. If I do, then is that going to cause me to make some change to the T-2 base, because of this base guard feature thing, etc. On another topic, sometimes I lose radio connection between my base and rover a few times during a day of surveying, and sometimes it will go for 8 hours no problem. What might be the solution to always having radio contact. Phil

Here comes the stupid questions. What buttons do I push to clear any data collected into the T2. It could be full. I do not download or process any files from it. I just run RTK from it. It would be my guess it is full of data. Phil

You need to connect to it as normal in Jfield and base rover setup. There is a button under where it says start that will populate the serial no’s of your LS and T2. When you tap on it you will see a button that says manage files. Tap on it and then you can delete each file individually by highlighting each one and hitting the red X or delete them all by pressing and holding the red X.

No

You will temporary lose radio communications every hour while the radio is broadcasting your call sign. If this is not what you are referring to, then you may be setting up the radio too far from the base and Bluetooth communications are dropping out sometimes.

I will do that. Regarding the radio issue, I have been setting a 35 watt radio about 30 feet from my base. I read on Page 41 of small booklet manual that a 4 watt could be set 130 feet or less from the base and probably connect. Is my being 30 feet close to the base causing me to lose radio and having to go back and reconnect. What could be possible reasons that I am losing radio? I am hiking in rough canyons and when I have to go back to reconnect, it is too much exercise for 59 year old guy.

My T-2 base and LS has been working as I just click past the "base guard" button or two buttons, that presents themselves. If I download the current updates is this going to cause any problem with the T-2

I don't think this is accurate but will try to test this sometime. In the past I recall that communications start getting dropped at about 30' so I would set up the radio 20' away.

Base guard will not cause any problems with your T-2. You can even disable the alerts if you want.

I do have the old style antenna cable, which may be twitching, but I think I have it secured fairly well. I have a rubber ducky antenna that I could use, but I do not think that would solve the problem. I do lose radio at rover in rough terrain, but then I get it back again. On Thursday I lost radio 3 times and then went back and re connect and it worked again for about 2 hours each time.

I would use the rubber ducky on the rover. I will set up closer to the base and see what happens. Thanks

If you are losing communications in rough terrain its because radio waves don't travel through the ground and they don't diffract over hilltops well. In general you want there to be line of sight between the two radios. http://www.heywhatsthat.com/ is a good sight to calculate the viewshed of a location to help predict where you should have radio coverage from a given location.

I understand that. I lose it as I walk in some places and then gain it back, but then after a hour or two I will lose it all together and have to go back to the base to reconnect. Although on one day last week I had it for 8 hours in rough canyons with 20 second loss here and there, but if it goes past 50 seconds, then I never can get it back.

You said "if it goes past 50 seconds, i can never get it back".

I can leave my base in the field, transmitting. Drive back to office, do cogo, and drive back to field, and as soon as I'm within range of base, it "goes green".

Do you have to stop, and restart your base, to get radio again?

Do you notice excessive heat in your radio?

Is your base battery well charged?

Chase this, till you find it...

Nate, I have not paid any attention to the heat. I use a big car battery basically. I do have to stop and restart my base to get radio again.

May be I have not charged the car battery enough. It has been 20 degree survey weather up here
