I am so glad that you mentioned the industrial revolution Nate. I have been giving a lot of thought to this lately, how it relates to me historically as a surveyor, my relationship to it and position in all of it.

Something that is becoming more apparent to me is that most of the technologies, business models, equipment, and operating methods that are currently standards in our profession as land surveyors (and civil engineers if I must include this) happen to be Industry 3.0 (Industrial Revolution #3) generation models.

I could spin off into a whole abstract discourse of relative facts, evidence, and theories but more specifically the general operational standards I have been exposed to in not too distant past employments, and if I were able to work in a firm operating in the market, be enforced into operating under, are methodologies and systems no different than developed in the early 90’s when RTK and robotic total stations first came at us. (Trimble, Leica, Topcon, etc.)

Sidebar: When I started this in the 70’s we as surveyors were mostly still stuck in Industry 1.0 using transits and steel tapes (I still love telling people I surveyed with a “Gurley and Chain”…the looks) unless we happened to need a radio of flashlight (then Industry 2.0). Then in the 80’s we saw EDM’s, CAD, and data collection move us quickly into Industry 3.0 status. And here we sit…..

To wit the major geo positioning equipment manufacturers, in my humble opinion, are stuck in Industry 3.0 and basically have all their followers drinking the cool-aid keeping it’s workers back from real progressive work models.

Enter Javad. I have thought long about what seems to be the most unique things in my new adventures in making better operating modes with Javad’s equipment in my arsenal and I have resolved that the single most powerful thing is that Javad is fearless in his brilliant ideas and ability to say “BAH!” to standards and has moved us into Industry 4.0 with his standard breaking equipment. I mean Holy smoke with the advantages I have gained here my production as a solo surveyor is easily equivalent to multi person survey departments in firms stuck in Industry 3.0 (or Trimble mode if you will).

Just one simple example being that the J-field integrated DPOS post processing has in fact in my experience made the need for software like Trimble Business Center obsolete, being a focal point of that company’s business model and the cool-aid along with it.

I am so relieved and thankful that the forward looking and thinking philosophy underlying this product has actually given me a way of moving forward with the times in a profession I have enjoyed for 4 decades that appears in large stuck in the past by corporate product tyranny.

I think my new punch line will be “Surveyors meet Javad, welcome to Industry 4.0”.
One quick comment on this (I have not read the entire thread and know this is a bit dated). Javad was there in the beginning. His products are not new. I believe Topcon is selling his intellectual advancements of 10+ years ago as new products. Many Topcon users know his work well, they just don't know the source of development. For example, look at the Hyper line. I receive adds all the time from a surveying retailer selling a product that was on the drawing board 20 plus years ago.

I am pretty sure Javad developed the first portable GPS receiver when he was working with Trimble. I bet some of that core programming is still around in their systems. If that's the case, then all mainstream surveyors use his intellectual property whether they know it or not.

OK, the clock is ticking on my funding for buying Javad stuff... I need firm answers on some questions:

Is there any kind of time frame on the release date for the T3? Earlier in this thread it said end of year (2018), but here we are 6 months into the new year.

If I buy a T1-M with the intent of trading in for a T3 later (which I've been lead to believe I can do in the future at no cost), can I use my current 435BT radio with the T1-M? The internal 1 watt radio will be a deal breaker for me.

Can I buy from any of the people listed as "Survey Product Sales" the Javad website's dealer map, or am I limited to those listed only as "Dealer"? I've been extremely underwhelmed with the dealers I've worked with so far. I feel like I have to beg them to take our money all the time.

I'm not sure about the T3 release time frame.

Yes the 435BT will work with the T1M.

Matt, Matt, and John are the closest of the 5PLS to you.

I hate to say it, but I'm very disappointed with the dealers listed on the website. I emailed five of them asking for a quote on a new T1-M, but only got a response from one. Is anyone here able to get me a quote, and also in SAMS and IPP (government contracting registration)? I'm begging people to take my money, but no one's interested.

I also want to make sure the T3 no-cost trade-in offer still stands, whoever I buy it from.

@Michael Glutting usually handles the government purchases. Did you email him?

Hi Aaron,

I'll follow up with our dealers to see that you get the multiple quotes you require for your procurement process. You should receive responses in the next day.

It seems that Triumph-3 has a self-calibrating/magnetic interference resistant integrated IMU, improving lift & tilt option and offset functions.
TRE-3 OEM board inside with third generation Triumph chip and the latest JMT version will make this system very light. And probably one Bosch LDM shoot per building corner, will be enough (possible with industrial IMU). Let's see if surveyors will begin to configure more frequently the LS as a base..

Indeed, both the LS and T3 will work together, but J-Mate has been designed for the LS and at some future point, could be completely integrated into the LS.
For the moment, J-Mate is an accessory for the LS and that's all.

Now I think we need a different kind of base, that will augment the LS or T3 using BlueTooth, UHF, Wi-Fi, LASER and EDM for all surveying jobs and also every single piece from this chain could work individually.

Just a clumsy sketch here, but I think Javad will keep the LS design. ;)

No. I don't agree. Our intention is we should not have any overhead for users who do not need optical. They should not carry anything that is larger or heavier than what they need. In our case, if you don't need optical, just leave J-Mate at home and take your TLS and T3 (if you need a base). In your case, all users at all times, need carry something that is much bigger than TLS or T3. And in rare cases that they need optical, take J-Mate too.
What are the dimensions and the weight of the unit that you suggested?

Dear Javad,

You are a scientist, people will like to challenge your mind and we are all happy when a new Javad brand product is born. This could be a geodetic tool suitable for all surveying jobs (ex: construction), just needs to be offered and people will come closer to see, compare and buy it, but this time I lost.

I respect your opinion, thank you very much for the answer.

I've got some very high expectations for the new constellations that will be added when we get at E3 on base and the software becomes a mature product. As it is when you have to wait for a while for a shot, you just get a break from work. When the T3 is running there may not be any more timeouts! I have high hopes.

The unit from #54 could be 4-5kg in weight, removable GNSS antenna included (acting separately as a rover).

Above Gyro is 3.2kg, J-Mate about 2kg and GNSS antenna 0.5kg, very close to the total package of LS/J-Mate/T3 that weights about 5.6kg.
J-Mate or GNSS antenna could include a very light "System on a Chip" GNSS receiver. So the weight is directly linked with the latest GNSS technology.

Indeed very high expectations both for the new constellations and GNSS receivers. But I think there will always be bad/hard to reach spots for the receivers alone. Tall urban canyons, dense pines, riversides, jammed/spoofed areas, etc. will continue to challenge us in the next years, everywhere.

I understand your high hopes for T3 and I also do hope that maybe T4 will be a "System on a Chip" GNSS receiver doubling the (same) battery life. Or, the next LS could have angle encoder, laser and smart camera inside the actual form factor and weight (see #37), all with an upgraded hardware technology.

We've just started a new decade and it is normal to clearly post here what we want from Javad.

- 10" rugged tablet (Android/Windows 10) with GNSS RTK/DPOS module unit and Intel Real Sense technology attached, with indoor/outdoor scanning capabilities (PDF attached);
- upgraded non-robotic LS with inside angle encoder, improved smart camera and on-screen touchpad for up/down MEMS Mirror LASER measurements;
- upgraded J-Mate GNSS Gyro with EDM/LASER for what could be worse..

Thanks!
