Triumph LS power issues and system freezes

Current J-Field version 1.10.317387 and related updates.
(Battery status screenshot attached)

Has anyone else experienced these issues?

-After the update to version 1.10.316494 the battery indicator lights would not turn off
after powering down. That problem was fixed with a forced update of the power board.

After the forced update these problems still persist;

-The charging process and indicator lights work erratically, sometimes freezing in a half charged state.
Plugging and unplugging the charger will change the light display to all green.
When the unit is on there are only 3 indicator lights showing, the lower right light is off.
It will only indicate 16-18 hours of battery time when fully charged.

-System freezes almost every time the unit is used, when powering down the unit,
booting to windows, or performing updates. Requires Hard shutdown.

-The unit is at full charge but only indicates 17:30 of battery time left and seems to discharge quicker than normal. Battery time not consistently displayed.

Hi Sean,
Please first update to the current version of J-Field. The versions that you've cited are incorrectly reported and old. The current version of J-Field is v1.10.3.17463. If that fails to address the various issues listed, please report.

You should also thoroughly read the thread:

-The charging process and indicator lights work erratically, sometimes freezing in a half charged state.
With the Triumph-LS turned off, a full charge takes about 5 hours. How long have you let it charge before determining it to be frozen? For best results, charge the LS with it turned off. If you charge while the unit is turned on, heat thresholds will retard or stop charging - read the portion of the manual discussing this.

Plugging and unplugging the charger will change the light display to all green.
There shouldn't be any lights on after you've unplugged the charger until you turn the unit on.

When the unit is on there are only 3 indicator lights showing, the lower right light is off.
This is the correct behavior for the current version of J-Field.

It will only indicate 16-18 hours of battery time when fully charged.
The value of time shown is a guess based on 1) the current state of the charged system's two batteries as indicated by your screenshot, 2) the number of things that you've got running and 3) the extrapolation of those things anticipated power drain against that charged state. Running one communications module will consume juice and having all of them running will consume more. Prove it to yourself by watching the battery gauge when you turn them on and off.

The unit is at full charge but only indicates 17:30 of battery time left and seems to discharge quicker than normal. Battery time not consistently displayed.
Allow the LS to continue charging 15-20 minutes beyond seeing all 4 LEDs immediately turn green to be fully charged. Please elaborate as to what is meant by "discharge quicker than normal."

Triumph LS sat idle in the case in my office Thanksgiving week, turned off with a full charge.
Tried to turn the unit on today, Monday and unit was completely discharged.
Charging now and will see if this happens again.

LS Power and charging update/observations;
The unit appears to be discharging powered off and sitting idle.
This is a recent development.

Monday: Charged the LS for 12 hours waiting for all green indicator lights.
The lights never went all green (Bottom remained red).

Tuesday: Unplugged charger after observing lower battery indicator lights still red.
Had to power unit on and off to gain all green indicator lights.
When the LS was powered up the battery life indicated 18-19 hours (fluctuating).
Powered unit off.

Wednesday: Powered unit on in morning to check battery life, indicates 16-17 hours.
Check again in evening indicates 14-15 hours.

Thursday: Powered unit on in the morning indicates 13-14 hours,
BUT indicator lights are all green
after power up on all days.

BTW I have the cellular modem turned off.
Does the zero in the attached screenshot mean anything?

Sean, this is great - thank you for this report. Eugene and the development team need these types of reports to help them evaluate, find and fix this issue which you and others have been experiencing. Keep an eye out for other anomalous behavior including icons indicating power on/off states; e.g., 3G, WiFi, etc.

In answer to your question, the zero is one of the indicators that you are not hooked up to an external power supply/charger at the time you took the screen shot.

Please include the Versions screenshot.

Kelly;
Only turned it on to check the battery status.
Will be using it in the field this week.
I will be sending the unit in shortly for the screen replacement and the technicians
can check to see if this is unique to this LS?

I believe most Windows mobile devices discharge even when powered down. Likely there are boards that run even when the unit is off.

Shawn;
This is relatively new behavior of the LS (excessive battery discharge)) that I am experiencing.

Battery Update 12/17/2014;
My Triumph LS completely drained sitting idle again over the past week.
?? Have there been any issues with a defective battery? and could that one
drain the other batteries?

We've been testing a new power board firmware and OS. I have not seen any power issues with the newest firmware. Hopefully this will make it to "release" soon.

Yesterday 12/17/2014 I was performing stakeout of 4 points
and the LS locked up as I was checking into a known point
to end the day.
(Note I checked into this same known point first before starting the stakeout and accepted the stakeout results)
The LS slowed and delayed between screens until the system froze and displayed a message which included "N3 screens.....
I took a screen shot but the resulting png file is empty so I can't upload.
To recover I had to perform a hard shutdown of the receiver and which resulted in the time
being reset to UT/GMT from EDT.

???? Does re-staking a previously staked and accepted point potentially cause a system freeze?

Sean,

Thanks for you input as I am having the same problem of batteries draining and lock-ups. They set me a new unit and now I have the same problems and cannot get out of "Stand Alone" mode. Hopefully they'll find the fix soon.
