Triumph2/TriumphLS/HPT435

I am having trouble using the LS to start the triumph2 as a base.

I did it successfully a week ago with a triumph1 receiver, when I do it with the triumph2 it will trasfer the base settings to the receiver, but it won't recgonize the modem. I manually select the hpt435 from the list, and then the receiver appears to read an autonomous position, but the radio will not broadcast anything.

It also appears that the radio is not receiving data from the base and the bluetooth light is solid. The TX light is not lit.

I've gone through the remote uhf base set up instructions and the set up base radio and rover instructions but it doesn't seem to work.

The LS software is up to date as of this monring.

Did you happen to restart the radio. I've seen instances where the radio will get bad instructions from the Triumph2 (ie UHF settings sent to a Spread Spectrum radio) that locked up the radio. The radio detection is still a bit sketchy. I would recommend refiring the radio, manually selecting the 435, and trying again.

I updated to the latest software on the ls. 1.10.316494 and it still doesn't work. I can connec tto to the Triumph2 but I can't get the hpt435 to broadcast anything.

I have the base and radio on the same tripod. Do they need any sepraation? I read on the message board somewhere that there wasn't any recommended separation distance fromthe Triumph2 and the base radio.

Jason,

If you look on the HPT435BT you should see the Tx light blinking periodically in addition to the Bluetooth light's blinking. Are you saying that the radio itself shows no signs of transmission? Or is it that you see no evidence of transmission from the LS including frequency scans and UHF status screen?

Regarding separation, a separate subject unto itself:

Please note the following from the manual beginning on page 40 of the 20140923 website edition:
Set up your radio
Knowing where your RTK base is going to be set up to
maximize satellite reception is the first step in setting up
your radio.
Other criteria for your radio’s location will be predicated
on 1) mitigating the electromagnetic effects of the radio’s
transmissions on the GNSS receiver, 2) the practicable
range of the Bluetooth connection between the RTK base
and the radio and lastly 3) the higher the antenna, the
further the line of sight distances will be allowed which
is one element effecting the range of the rover while still
receiving corrections.
Setting Up the UHF Radio With regard to the first item, I asked Javad how close is too
close when it comes to setting up the radio and here is his
response:
Hello Kelly,
There is no hard rule. The effect depends on the power
of the transmitter. Vertical or horizontal separation is
the same. The further you are the effect is less. For 1
watt stay away a few feet. For 45 watt, stay away 20
feet. The further the better.
Regards,
Javad

In regards to the second point, I asked Vladimir Zhukov this
question: “What is the most practicable range of the communication
between the T2 and the HPT404BT (shown in this
example) afforded through Bluetooth ? “ and his answer:
Hi Kelly,
Up to 50 ft (~15 m) is the practicable range of the
communication between TRIUMPH-2 and HPT401BT/
HPT404BT.
Actually in the field they keep reliable connection up to
130 ft (~40 m).
So, > 130 ft is too far.
Regards,
Vlad
The last bit, the height or elevation of the antenna has two
things relevant for you to consider; 1) power and 2) viewshed.
If you have the base RTK kit that comes with (2) 6’ SAE
extension cords (14-578102-01 REV.2) and the battery kit
power cable (14-578121-01 REV.2), this comfortably adds
another 5’ or so plus the 1’ pigtail. That’s about a maximum
of 18’ between the 12-volt battery and the radio that’s
permissible.
The viewshed...

Thanks Kelly for the info. It appears that they triump2 and hpt435 need to be paired initially using netview so they talk to each other. I hadn't seen that in any of the quickstart guides before.

I'm working through that process now.

Unfortunately the app is only for android. I have iphone. Also netview will not recgonize the radio when I try to connect to it to pair with triumph2. Can connect fine to radio with Modemvu

jsupport trying to work through it now but not having any luck.

Murphy's law...

I haven't tried it lately, but from tests done earlier this summer, I think if the T2 was previously paired; for example, like to the HPT404BT or the HPT401BT, you should unpair it before trying to get the HPT435BT paired.

This is all new equipment. jsupport had to manually pair the two together. Now it appears that they are connected as the bt light on the t2 comes on when the radio is on. And I can get throught the setup in the LS and it will recgonize the modem. After I set the base, the bt light on the radio will flash like it is receiving something from the T2 but I don't get a any flashing from the TX. Nothing broadcasting.

It takes about a minute for the T2 to send all of the radio settings to the modem. Then you should start to see the transmit light.

Hi Joy,

I'm sorry, I don't understand the question. Please let us know what you're trying to do.
Were you asking about pairing the T2 with your radio? Were you successful?

I took delivery of an HPT435BT today, and am having trouble getting it connected. My build of NetView -- 4.7 Build 1.18, which appears to be current -- doesn't have the connection menu bar as shown in the image above. How do I access the BT connection information?

Connect to the Triumph-2, then on the left side of the screen select "Parameters" under the receiver's name. Then click "Ports" on the top row, then click "Bluetooth".

Okay, got that part -- thanks!

Now I need to figure out why ModemVU won't connect to the radio -- I get "access is denied" to COM1, even though there's nothing else using it. Are there config parameters for COM1 that I need to set? I'm looking through the radio manual, but not finding any. (It's currently set for 9600 8N1.)
