RE: Jfield v3.0.0.212; Linux v4.4.150.1

This morning I've been unsuccessful in uploading [GARAGE-PE0036.sqlitedb] to SD/jdata/BackgroundMaps/
background map won't upload.PNG

In fact, I've yet to successfully upload any background map since the switch to Linux earlier this summer; however, since retiring, I've not been needing to accomplish this task so have only had limited attempts to upload a background map since. Today's pro bono project is tied to NGS GPS on BM campaign and might be of interest to some of you as GEOID18 will impact U.S. surveyors.

One observation: the intended path is revealed differently in RAMS than in Jfield:

Could the issue be due to the version of RAMS Desktop?

RAMS-Desktop v2.2.6.PNG

After a little rummaging around, I found this page: http://www.javad.com/jgnss/products/software/rams.html
Windows Defender SmartScreen indicates that this .exe as coming from an Unknown publisher. Pushing through, Run anyway, reveals the .exe is still showing as being v2.2.6; however, the reported size is different:

RAMS-Desktop v2.2.6c.PNG

In any event, the RAMS Desktop v2.2.6 installed today had no immediate impact on the failure to upload the background map.
Rebooting Jfield, and trying again to upload the file made no difference.

It appears that you have more than one partition on your SD card. Have you checked this?

When I try to upload files through RAMS I am only able to upload files to a USB drive in the LS. I am not sure why it is not working.

On another note, in the Test version of the OS file transfers through the USB cable are now supported as the device is treated as a mass storage device when connected to a PC through the USB cable.

I'm a little rusty on this, but the LS shows I'm connected to JAVAD GNSS, INC, now some 15 minutes. However, if I launch RAMS Desktop and navigate to rams.javad.com:8800, my LS is not showing up in the list of connected receivers. What am I missing?

Kelly, what software do you use to make your background maps? I would love to have my GeoPDF quad maps in my LS - it would be enormously convenient.

@Aaron,
Whenever the ability to load background maps using RAMS Desktop gets fixed, it will be most welcome news as that method has been the easiest. Until then, you may want to try other workarounds including USB to PC; PC to thumb drive to LS; PC to SD card; and maybe some other route I can't think of at the moment, noting, I actually haven't recently tried them and never have I tried them under the Linux-Jfield system.

As for what software I use to create the background maps intended for the LS, it is Global Mapper; however, any software that can create an .sqlitedb database of georeferenced raster images should work. More on those choices and the related steps are detailed in the little manual: TRIUMPH-LS Getting Background Maps

Making background maps from GeoPDFs would be quite easily accomplished using Global Mapper

Hello Kelly, would you please connect the unit to JAVADGNSS RAMS server? I would like to look at the unit closely.

Hello Eugene,

It's been more than 24 hours that I've had my unit on and logged onto the server. Hopefully, you've figured out the issues by now, but if not and you need my LS logged onto the server again, please email me directly with the preferred time and day to do so.

I seem to be having a problem similar to Kelly's, but a bit different.

If I use J-Field to browse to SD Card/jdata/BackgroundMaps/ I see the same files as I do when I use RAMS to browse to Remote drives/SD/jdata/BackgroundMaps/.

But if I attempt to set a background map from Project Settings, the files displayed appear to be stored in /media/sdcard/part1/jdata/BackgroundMaps, with the exception of WorldLite.sqlitedb, which appears to be stored in /home/root/opt/BackgroundMaps.

J-Field won't give me the option of choosing the files in SD Card/jdata/BackgroundMaps/, and I can't browse to sdcard/part1/jdata/BackgroundMaps with either RAMS or J-Field to paste the files there.

"SD Card/jdata/BackgroundMaps/" and "/media/sdcard/part1/jdata/BackgroundMaps" are the same location. When I try to upload a background map through RAMS it did not work. You should be able to load the background map by saving it to a USB drive, then connect the USB drive to the LS and copy the file and paste it into the BackgroundMaps folder.

@Mikhail Drakin, it would be nice have an option to import background maps so they don't have to be manually imported like this.

Oops. My bad. I had deleted several old .sqlite files without deleting their corresponding .sqlite.xml files. I could see the file names when I tried to browse with J-Field or RAMS, but they weren't in the list when I tried to select them as a background map. I can load a new background map with either USB or with Google Drive (my preferred method).
