Undo Shift

What is the difference between un-checking the Apply Shift checkbox and pressing the Undo Shift button?

Apply shift wil make it active for points collected while activated and undo removes the shift from those points.

So if I apply the shift, collect some points, un-check apply shift, and collect some more points without pressing Undo Shift, I will have some points shifted and others not shifted?
