Use of the Record Button on the T-2?

How is the Record button on the T-2 intended to be used? I know pressing it will stop recording, but I assume (yes, yes, I know what they say!) that when you initially turn it on and radio contact is made, the T-2 is automatically recording. In other words, I'm looking for confirmation that in a normal RTK survey, the Record button does not have to be pressed for the base to be operating correctly...

The data sheet also notes that the T-2 records at "up to 100 times per second." One of the LED lights also indicates when there is only 10 min of storage left. The more I think about this the more confused I think I am.

I'll be sitting down when I read any replies. Thanks in advance.

The record button starts and stops data recording. When the base is started with Base Rover Setup the command is automatically sent to start recording. Stopping the base in Base Rover Setup then will stop data from being recorded so the hardware button should not be used when Base Rover Setup is used to start and stop the base.

Thanks for the quick reply, Matt. So that confirms that I've been using it correctly.

At what point does the T-2 recorded data exceed storage?

I'm guessing that you could store for about 4 hours at 100Hz. The Triumph-2 has 2GB of internal memory. At 1Hz, my file sizes are about 5MB per hour, at 100Hz, I'd expect a 100x increase or 500MB per hour. 2000MB/500MB/hour = 4 hours.

It might be time to erase the files on your Triumph-2. You can do this from Base Rover Setup. Press the panel just below the Start Base/ Stop Base button that shows the rover receiver name and base receiver name. You'll see a menu that allows for "Manage Files". Select this and then press and hold the red X (delete button) to delete all files on the Triumph-2.

There aren't a lot of practical reasons for you to record at 100Hz. For years 1Hz was considered overkill for static post-processing, but it's become quite useful for the base>rover processing in DPOS.

Base Rover Setup sets data to be logged at 1 Hz by default. The receiver can be configured in Netview to log data at faster rates. Here is an explanation of the REC LED:

As Matt mentioned above, you really don't use the record button much if you are using the Triumph-2 as a base with the Triumph-LS. If you are using the Triumph-2 as a static receiver, then you would likely use the record button to start logging data.

Thanks, Shawn & Matt. I had some time this afternoon to reread a couple of the JAVAD guides. Replies have all been helpful.

Shawn, good recommendation. I'll plan on erase the T-2's files.

What happens if, during a long job, storage fills up before the work is finished?

You've got about 2 weeks of continuous recording at 1Hz, so it's not likely to run out, but if you neglect to keep your memory cleared, I'm not sure. The receiver has the ability to overwrite the oldest files first in such events, but I don't know if it is configured to do so by default.

You should receive a popup warning message that storage is low when connecting to a base with limited storage remaining.

I know that this is an old thread, but, it seems to be the one that most closely matches my question. I want to start using my T2 for static collection. I have downloaded the latest firmware (3.6.16) and cleared the navram. I have successfully collected a static file using only the start/stop button and the file shows up under file management when I connect to the T2 with my LS.

When I select the file and initiate download, it appears to be working, but, I can't find the static file on the LS. The download button doesn't give me a choice as to where to send it. Any suggestions?

Some other questions:

Do I need to specify the epochs/second as explained above or is it now defaulting to 1 based on the latest firmware?

Once I find the static file on the LS, can I DEPOS it separately or does it have to associated with another base file?

Where can I assign a point number (name) to the point I am collecting static observations on?

Thanks.

I think it would go in the current project by default. try going to files-collected by user-click GNSS raw, and see if it comes up. If it's there, then try points-top left button with 3 lines-create base and dpos from file. you can highlight it in the points screen and click edit button to rename.
