FAQ and Troubleshooting

Establishing connection

  • Q: Device search doesn’t work: only already paired devices (marked with “*”) are displayed.
    A:
At the first run JERCI application requests permission to access device location. This permission is necessary for device search to work. If you ignored this request, just close the application and restart it. In case you have rejected the permission request, you can give it manually via Android system settings (Applications -> JERCI -> Permissions) or simply uninstall the application and install it again – it will request the permission again.
  • Q: Permission is granted, but my Triumph-LS still cannot be found.
    A:
First of all, check that checkbox “Visible” is checked in Bluetooth configuration. Then note that device visibility is only turned on for 2 minutes after entering Bluetooth info screen. Thus, after checking the visibility setting, enter Bluetooth info screen on your TLS and then restart scan on your Android device. It should find you TLS. Maybe it will appear only by MAC Address for some time. You can either wait for the literal name to be discovered or connect via MAC Address immediately – the choice is yours. Note that once connected (and thus paired) you don’t have to care about visibility anymore: for the next sessions the device will be remembered.
  • Q: JERCI reports the device is connected, but the virtual device screen is displayed empty and TLS does not respond to any phone commands.
    A:
Please go to the Bluetooth configuration screen on your TLS and check two parameters: Bluetooth should be ON and checkbox “Allow Control The Device Via Bluetooth” should be checked.
Performance
  • Q: Screen update rate is very low.
    A:
Bluetooth standard itself is designed for low traffic, while live image updates is not the case. Thus, you should not expect anything close to live video. Note “Screenshot encoding” parameter in JERCI settings. “Prefer speed” option should provide about 2 frames per second in most cases (depending on the screen complexity and the radio environment). “Prefer quality” will normally provide no more than 1 frame per second.
  • Q: I have selected “Prefer quality” option in JERCI settings, but image is still look affected with lossy compression artifacts.
    A:
J-Field tries to maintain reasonable framerate and for some complex images (highly detailed map overlay in action screen for example) it still may use lossy compression even when quality is set to be preferred. Once the screen image become simple enough for lossless format – it will be transferred that way.
Reliability
  • Q: JERCI does not update the screen image, although no disconnects are reported, and TLS still receives commands from my phone.
    A:
This means you have very poor connection quality: either you have gone too far from your TLS or something is significantly blocking the signal. JERCI tries to reconnect in case of connection problems detection, but in some non-fatal cases of “bad but still existing” connection it fails fixing the situation even after user returns to the good signal area. The simple solution is manual reconnect. We’re working on improvements for this kind of situations handling, but for now manual reconnect should solve any of such problems. If it doesn’t – please keep little bit closer to your TLS.
