What is the purpose of the almanac?

RE: JField 3.0.0.188; and 3.0.0.191; Almanac

This caught my eye and I wondered if we're talking about the broadcast ephemeris?

More curious than anything, but had also hoped with almanac for a combination of reading environmental blockages with real time mission analysis. For example, trees obscure sky to east up to 40d above horizon at a time critical to fixes. Notice could be given of when greater success might be expected. Thanks.

Thank you for the reply Eugene.

Given the user's OAF, is it worth considering that Update Almanac would only be visible if they had purchased the spoof detection option?
I'm assuming there's no harm in updating the almanac even though the user hadn't purchased the option, so leaving it visible won't hurt anything; it just will be meaningless to them.

well, we suppose to have this feature just in case. So this is kind of standard option of GNSS receivers. Our firmware doesn't require any almanac updates in normal non spoofed conditions. So the setting is rather useless, but doesn't hurt. Prbably, we should have better place for that button - for example in Setup[General]->Operation Mode->Advanced screen.

I thought spoof detection was an intrinsic piece of J-Field designed to ignore fake GNSS signals. Is spoof detection an upgrade that each user must purchase?
