I use the AP on the T-LS as a hotspot for my laptop in the field. It's handy to transfer points via cloud drive from the T-LS to Carlson Survey on my laptop and back. I also use SurvPC on my laptop to control my total station so the AP is helpful in transferring those points too. I could use my phone as a hotspot instead, but the battery on the T-LS lasts much longer than my phone battery. If the receiver and controller were separate, I think it would make more sense to have the larger battery and AP in the controller and keep the receiver as light as possible. But if the controller has a SIM card and a good battery, I would want it to provide an AP.
