offsets while staking a line?

Can someone please explain why when I am staking a line, the LS seems to show two answers? the DTT and screen graphic show 4.37, while the stationing on the display shows 1.226 feet (the correct answer). The numbers seem to converge as I get closer to the line, and both agree once I get there. Thanks! Jim

DTT (distance to target) displays the distance to the line in the direction that the LS is pointed based on the internal compass (think bearing- bearing intersection).. If you use the white box button left/right it displays the perpendicular offset to the line during stake to line.
