"Whats New" on this Forum

I would like to propose a new section/window on this USERS forum where there would be DETAILED complete up-to-the minute information about any software updates/changes/known glitches for the L.S., T2, radios, manuals, new videos, etc., etc.
Could be in the form of a streaming news banner and then a click/link for more information on a topic from Javad.com.
I like many here I believe am not using a fraction the many new features and information for Javad equipment because I don't know about them.
I don't go to the Javad website as much as I should and go here much more often. Posting the info here would get it disseminated to the USERS and probably save the Mag 7 lots of time answering redundant questions.

Nate, your are helping to prove the need for the Whats New
No I had not seen that, and it is a very handy feature.
Was it in the latest update?, (which I have only used once)

Yes Sean, I believe it was in the latest update. It is a very handy feature. We've used the LS many times to "find" an old base on a job we previously did BEFORE we set up the base.
For instance, I go back to mark some lines/corners on a job I did a year ago. I know approx where I set up my base, but there's no sign of my stakes/flags left. Turn on the LS with that previous job loaded in it, go to points and map. It will have a circle where your current location is. Zoom in tight and you can "walk" right into about 3'-5' of where your base is, then find with metal detector.

ANOTHER use for this feature, is: go to Job, and STAKE known points, by number, and it will take you CLOSE, (+ -3 ft usually), now you can use Mr. Shonestedt, and SEE if they knocked out the corners, without setting up a base.
ANOTHER use for this feature, is: USE usgs quad sheet. Drive to far away corners, that are supposed to be at, or near a road intersection. And, without RADIO, or BASE, TIE this point, And then POST PROCESS against cors, and develop a shot, within a foot, with a 5 min observation, and now you have a "Close coord" to develop other search locations. (This is AWESOME for searching along RANGE lines, and Township lines.) IF your base was set up, and you were out of radio range, you can do a PPK observation.
This equipment, is TRULY the magic box, for a dedicated surveyor. One word: It's VERSATILE.
Another thing. You can go to JOB A, set on old base, or survey point, then CHANGE JOBS, and start surveying. Or, copy the old base coords, to a new job file.

Last week, I went to a job with some 1500 coords. Intending to set 3 corners. Client had me modify some acreages. I did this in the LS, with COGO.
Then, I went to USE stakeout. Stakeout was goofed up. I exported the coords to thumb drive, that I had made, by date. This gave me only the few recent coords. Then, made a new job, IMPORTED the SPC coords. And staked them, NO PROBLEM. I'm sure PPK would get lost with this maneuver, but hey, I got the job done. Which, reminds me, I need to send that JOB to development team, so they can look, and figure out what is goobered, with that job file, and fix it. (base was still on Job A, but was staking on Job B)
Development team is INTERESTED in making this the finest. Our feedback, and experiences, when shared only serve to MAKE IT BETTER.
I'm a fan!

Not letting go of this it would be very useful!!!

I think it is a good idea... but here is the problem with it.
Javad engineers put something NICE in the LS, and don't tell anybody, except the Mag 7.
Now, the Mag 7 USE it, test it, and finally say it is good.
Then, it goes to the general bunch.
Now, a bug is found....
So, burying it for a little while is sort of handy, for development.
Until it is known that it is working properly.
So, ANY new feature put up here, could also get a score... ie, date of release, (and version), along with known bugs.
By this time, it becomes "old hat" to the development team, and they forget to tell us.

So, I like the idea, but suggest that it "Come with some protocol", so that the user can know how long it's been out, and such.

Occasionally, changing ONE part of the program, and that causes a problem elswhere.

So, that's what I think...

Did you see the new button "NEAREST", on the base/rover screen?
Just press it, and it pops up the coord thats nearest to you.
Don't have to look up coord number.
Its nice.
Nate
I tried this today and it started the base with the autonomous, pre-DPOS coordinates of the prior session's base.
I stopped the base and restarted it by selecting the same point from the points list and it used the CORS processed coordinates.
Glad I checked a known point with the rover first thing after starting the base.

another thing that would be good, is a LIST of nearest, starting with the closest.
Often, we have 5 or 10 coords on that same base. IF Reverse Shift were used, and then the DPOS was used, you could have several coords, within a few hundredths of each other.
So, it could or should be reflected there.

I had it do that to me last time out.., i clicked "nearest", and it kept giving me the "nearest" coord. Not the one 0.02' away, that I needed.
I then went to filters, and told it "sort by distance".
It did, and i was able to pick the correct one.
Not necessarily a big deal, but the goal is to simplify, where simplification can be done, and not hurt the big picture.

I guess I am a little dense, I went to the base rover screen and did not see "nearest"
I have J-Field 2.0.5.667
Is there anything published or otherwise that describes this feature and how it works?

Tap the coordinate window
okay I only turned the LS on at my desk went to the base rover screen, and I couldn't access the coordinate window without being connected to the base so I couldn't find nearest. So I should be going through the setup process for the base to do this?

Yes. The streaming coordinates from the base are used to find the nearest point in the coordinate data base.

Regarding multiple near points, I'm pretty sure that can be done using list with the distance filter active. It's been around for a while.

Well, on the subject of "What's New".
Me, and the ACCEPT button, in stakeout never quite "Got along". Various reasons. Suffice it to say, ACCEPT AS was MY button. However, being a human, creature of habit, I'd mess it up on most jobs, about one time.
In a hurry, and car coming, or client, or dog or whatever, and I'd hit ACCEPT. This was a problem, if I'd keyed in a bunch of note, and went back out, to the stk screen, and FORGOT to hit ACCEPT AS, and instead hit ACCEPT, in the SE corner of the screen.
WELL.
ASK and ye shall receive! (Somebody else said that)
Go to your STAKE screen, then, under ACTION SETUP profile, where it says HOW TO STOP. Now there is a check box. Down towards the SE corner of the screen.
<> "Accept As New Point".
Check that box. Tell it OK, OK, and NOW you (If you have the WHITE button Accept as) enabled) TWO accept as buttons. You can now do a long press of the WHITE button, and do away with the ACCEPT AS white button.

That thing has bit me more than once.
Thanks, Mr Ashajae, thanks Javad team, thanks again for everything.
And, to Sean Joyce, the Original Thread creator, Good idea. Here's my plan B. When something new comes along, and I find it, I'll post it here. If a few more of us do likewise, we well get along with it.

Hey, Great weather were havin'!

I can hear the ticks crawlin!
