    The Pincushion Effect

Definition is: Collateral evidence in surveying is similar to circumstantial evidence in law (by itself, it is insufficient; but an abundance of it is conclusive) Typically it would be occupation or other evidence other than the survey monument. An intersection of an old fence and center line...

    The Pincushion Effect

My statement about the manual not being the only way to survey is applicable. However, in states that have adopted it by statute surveyors should be very cautious of ignoring it. Then again in non-PLSS states I would not even have a copy of it LOL Fundamentals are vital even with a guide...

    The Pincushion Effect

I have to agree that the BLM manual is not the only way to survey. It is actually purely a guide for fed surveyors. As stated above I don't necessarily disagree with many things Mr. Lucas speaks to, except when it comes to Fed Lands. My reasoning has nothing to do with the Manual or agreeing...

    The Pincushion Effect

There are situations that require the setting of another monument but they tend to be the exception. Very broad subject for sure! In many cases it comes down to lack of effort and/or misunderstanding/misapplication of principles for a particular situation. The example of multiple irons marking...

    Background maps with parcel lines

Just beginning to catch up on features...For the background maps I would love to see the BLM PLSS layer be available for the linework of the PLSS. This is being updated as new Cadastral Surveys are being approved. It can be used in many GIS applications including Google Earth. User reference PDF...

Corrections through internet with no cell signal-Starlink??

I have not used this equipment since 2016 when it was the original LS/T2 combo. I was stuck with the big "no name here" equipment since 2016. Getting back into it recently. Great stuff and I am very impressed with many of the new features. One of the big ones being cellular corrections from a...

BLM Cadastral Survey Classroom Investigation/Middle School Teacher Guide

All, I mentioned on my "True Stories" video that BLM would soon be publishing an educational resource about Cadastral Survey. The below link is to the Classroom Investigation/Middle School Teacher guides published by BLM. The one recently published for Cadastral Survey is at the bottom of the...

T3NR Promotion and Trade In Program

I am intrigued with the J-Star PPP. I assume it uses the satellites for corrections and/or PP? I would love to see RTK corrections streamed through starlink or other satellite constellation eliminating the need for radios or internet connections altogether. Basically an RTN that only uses...

Which type of Controller do you prefer in field use?

My phone is a ruggedized (Kyocera Duraforce). Works well as phone or data collector. Battery life and overheating are the big issues.

    DWG import into JMT

Thank you for the reply. I tried what you describe. However what happens is the coords of the imported points look like they are correct if the job was set to feet, but when I edit job to feet the point coords are converted to feet as if they were in meters. As an example I have a point with...

Where Have You Been with Your LS Lately?

Here is a couple pics of a survey I did in April/May on Martha's Vineyard for the Wampanoag tribe. A walk on the beach!! This was a resurvey and posting of line, used the stake line feature a lot! One boundary was a 50 ft offset from mean high tide so elevation was involved! The LS made all the...

    Stake Curve from Map

Is there a way to stakeout a curve by selecting it from the map like the stake line function? The curve is imported from an autocad drawing and I would like to be able to select it from the map and stake it in the same manner as the stake line/polyline function. I tried selecting the curve by...
