Creating Offset points within the collect screen

I was out Monday and used the "offset" function several times locating trees and fence line shots. This feature has been discussed here quite a bit. It's a great feature but still has it's issues. It's now storing these created offsets in "survey" points, which is great. It allows us to move them along with our Dpos shift which takes out the confusion of having to do them separately. For them to be completely "attached" to your survey as you go around a boundary, they need to be stored in "survey" points.

I did have the camera go black twice while taking about 12 to 15 shots and had to do a hard reset of the LS to get it back. Hopefully that can surely be fixed in time. It only takes about five minutes from black screen to re boot and be shooting again, but it's frustrating to have to do so often. Could still be something in my LS though to happen this often.

After setting the bearing using the camera and shooting (and storing) the shot where I'm standing, I'm having some issues with the "offset coordinate" (P2). First off, the point number of that particular area will not increment to the next number and I have to edit it every time. For instance, I'll shoot point 55 at my offset location, then store point 56 as the created "survey" point. Next spot, I'll store point 57 at my offset location but the default of P2 is still set to 57 and if unchanged it will store a duplicate point 57.
Maybe I should look into just leaving it on C1 that it defaults to. That may increment to C2, etc but I've never used/liked alphanumeric numbers.
Also in that same location, that function seems to "hold" a description that I erase out and still stores it in the point data. I could have say, 24" black oak in the description line and click on it and erase it. That description is NOT showing when I hit create for the offset point but then it's still there when I dump and draw my points.

Hi Darren,

If I am about shoot an offset shot with using the white box in the collect screen action screen, i.e. a offset survey point (yeah baby!), and say my next point name is going to be 1046, I will put something higher and easy to filter for the point number in upper right position field (I like to think of this as the "parent point"), say 951046, put in my description for the offset point, take the observations, YES create the point, then after putting in the bearing and distance, I click on the the lower left position field ("child point") to check the description copied from the parent to the intended child point, and I change the point name back to 1046 (I don't have to remember what point number I need since it's inside the parent point, surveyed and displayed in the upper right field.)

That way after all the adjustments, and data exchanges, importing, exporting, etc, I can easily separate them for import or not import to a drawing, and easily see/keep track which of their parent/child associations. It also sets you up nicely for taking the next non offset shot in the next point name sequence.

All the best,
Rory
