Cover of January 2015 Volume 12, No. 1

A tip-o-the-hat and kudos to Shawn Billings for his great Gear Review article in last month's American Surveyor on the Triumph-LS and J-Field. Well done and worth all of the time he put into this examination of the Triumph-LS. I won't be surprised if Mr. Glutting will need to hire an assistant to keep up with the explosion of sales to professional surveyors his write-up will generate.

A little back story about the cover photo
This was shot for Shawn's article on October 18, 2014 in Acadia National Park. It was in a small ravine, near the outlet stream (Bubble Brook) from Bubble Pond and at the base of a massive hemlock tree. Lots of multipath where no sane surveyor would try and get a repeatable fix. It took a while, first testing to see if it would fix, and then frigging around with the pano setup and the 10 sets of 7 exposures used in the making of this image. The photo above is actually only a portion of the original 360x180 pano displayed here with a stereographic projection towards zenith. More frequently you may see stereographic projections pointed toward nadir and better known as little planets.

Here's the DPOS report for the particular observation seen in the photo above:
