I am having a major range problem with my LS.
Moving 30 ft from the base and I receive a message that I need to connect the external UHF antenna. OK done.
Working in an unincorporated area with very low density (structural improvements), low density oaks and the occasional eucalyptus stand.
I loose my uhf connection if I turn a corner, are no longer line of sight or hit 5-700 ft.
When I purchased the unit, I could survey 3000 ft from the base without an externalantenna on my LS and certainly had many instances where I was no longer line of sight.
The correction at the ls has become loose a number of times. I tighten and it loosens up.
Also using the whip antenna with the external radio (the same antenna I have always used).
I suspect it's the base radio's whip antenna or there is something wrong with the radio.
Do you guys have any thoughts on solving the probelm? How about testing the radio/antenna. I do have higher gain antenna that I intend to try today to see if that makes a differance.
