Viewing point descriptions in the map

Is there a way to have the point description and/or code displayed with the point name/number when looking at the map? Currently I only see the point name/number displayed. I know I can select "View" from the Collect1 screen to toggle what I want to see, but I haven't had any luck getting descriptions or codes displayed.

Thanks,

Yes, there is a way. On the Collect (Action) screen, press and hold down a white box, choose Point Description, you then can from the Collect screen view, enter, edit your descriptions.

Point Description is greyed out and doesn't do anything.

I think Joe was wanting the point description to show on the map with the symbol and point name/number. At least that's what I'm wanting. Point Description needs added to the View Attributes list.

BTW, how is the "Miscellaneous Point Names" different from the "Point Name" button?

There is a checkbox for Codes in the View Attributes screen however this currently doesn't seem to be working at the moment. I agree that Point Description should be added as an option. I will request the developers add it as well. If you highlight a point in the map by moving the cursor over it you can currently see the point description at the top of the screen, the code should probably also be shown there. The white box selection screen that Kelly posted show options as greyed out when they are already currently selected.

Miscellaneous Point Names is for line nodes from imported lines.

I don't see the point description of the selected point at the top of the screen when I do this. Can you post a screenshot?

I see that I already had Point Description selected in one of the white boxes. The description in the white box is the description of the next point to be collected. I was looking to have the map show the descriptions of points already on the map.

Kelly,

Thanks for the video. That's a handy tech support mechanism.

My descriptions are usually short. They usually take up about as much room on the map as the altitude numbers you showed. It would be helpful to view descriptions on the map so it is not just dots and numbers.

In SurvCE, the map shows the point number and description in different colors, which helps with legibility. The J-Field map is already smart enough to reduce detail as I zoom out, something the SurvCE developers haven't added yet.

In the map/review screen (Collect -> Review) the point name and description are shown at the top of the screen when a point is selected:

Thanks, Matt.

I still think it would be handy to have the option to show descriptions in the blue area of the map in the collect action and stake map screens.

I'm a little late to the show but yes, John, that is what I was wanting as well. Thanks for adding it to the list, Matt.

Hi, Matt!

Current version of MapScreen can show points code on the map. Do we still need to display code on top the screen in addition to description? The main drawback is reducing font size to fit both code and description into the cell.

Hi Sergey,

Yes, we need to see both Code and Description with the exception when the Code is "DefCode". In this case it should not be displayed. The text can be truncated to some reasonable length when there is not enough room to display a long description and to prevent the text size from becoming too small.
