Ok, so I'm out here, only to find out that the previous surveyor was pretty much out of luck if he wanted to do anything on his own. All he had at his disposal was a mechanical total station - no GPS, no robot, etc. It would be a big benefit to this forest - I think - if they could at least to static observations on corners. The hills/mountains kind of prevent RTK radio links, and cell coverage is essentially nonexistent.
What would you all recommend for a bare-bones setup? Something where you could get survey grade positions while spending around 30 minutes at each corner?
Any chance that there's some used or slightly outdated equipment floating around that I could have on loan - just to show off what's possible?
