We can now buy 1 and 2 terabyte thumb drives.
Can we use these with the LS?
If not, how big can we go?
Is there information available?

thanks

Hi Nate,
As long as they are formatted as 'FAT32' they should work in the TLS so as to be able to save and transfer 'Project Data'.

Note: Using a USB thumb drive to 'archive' data is not good practice, one should only use a USB thumb drive to 'transfer' data to a permanent 'archive' . . .

Just a heads up:
I bought this 2 TB thumb drive off of EBAY.

Effective, it has around 1.8 TB, (For some reason it is rounded up). And, it seems to work fine.

This allows me to essentially store 40 years worth of surveying in a tiny cheap device. So, I can back up all my surveys to one of these, and all my LS files in one place.

I am planning to order another, to keep "Off Site".

Hey Nate,
I've used similar thumb drives with good results until for some reason they start to put up a fight with the computer and then no longer even mount at all. Just make sure you have a plan B as a further backup besides one of these drives, USB devices can be persnickety from my experience. For example, I have two I've used for years with my LS+ that currently will not function in my Win 11 PC or Win 11 laptop but still work in a Win 8.1 laptop. These are formatted FAT32. So I grabbed a many years old FAT small thumb drive, exported a file from the LS+ and it worked fine in both Win 11 machines.
