35 WATT RADIO RANGE

The range on my HPT435BT radio to my LS has dropped recently. I am getting about 400' with the internal antenna, and about 900' with the external antenna. This is line of sight. I could not get 500' with the external antenna in the woods today. I don't know how to check for noise. The range has been decreasing for about 2 weeks. When the LS is connected to the base, the LS screen shows a output of 30 and 1000. I don't know how to do a screen save and send it in.

It appears that your base has lost connection with your external radio. What base do you have? When you start your base do you have the external button selected or internal.

If you have the external button selected and then hit to > by where it has "Radio" it should have a picture of yuor 35watt radion and different options for frequency power etc. If it does not show your 35watt radio you will need to repair the bluethooh connection between base and rover.

Please set up your equipment with 100' of seperation between the base radio and the LS.

Take screenshots of the uhf information accessed by the uhf antenna icon along the top of the screen. Do this test with the internal and external antennas on the LS. Make sure to select which one you are using on the LS.

By my experience, I fried a diode in my 35 watt radio. I did this by plugging it in, and unplugging it in rapid succession. AFTER frying it, it would only run at 1 watt. I lost range. So, being in a hurry, I bought a 4 watt radio, as a backup, and sent my 35 in for repairs. It came back repaired, and has run well ever since.
ONLY start/stop the radio via software, via the LS.
Adam above will be sure of your settings, and if they are good, it is possible that you fried your high power diode, and are only able to push out a low power setting.

I have terminals on my radio power cord and I bolt it to the battery. I have a switch in the line. I don't know how to switch the radio on using software.

The easiest way is to get the LS on remote assistance and view it through the RAMS (Remote Assistance Monitoring Service). On that site you can grab screen shots from your LS easily.

Pappasurveyor looked at the radio power setting. 1 Watt. How that happened is unknown. I had wondered at how cool the radio stayed. We changed the radio to 25 watts. He taught me how to check the radio power. The base has to be connected to the base. The radio range is awesome now. I just collected a point 4230' from my base. over a hill and behind buildings. Thanks to everyone.
