Compare Trimble R-10 to Javad LS

It would be nice if there were enough people there to justify a training day on Saturday, or a part day Friday, depending on how long the shootout takes.

Nate;
This looks to be an informative and enjoyable time and I wish I could attend.
Some of the comments on the RPLS thread about comparison criteria seemed to get way off "point'"
Please correct me if I am wrong, but isn't this about using 2 (or more) different makes of GPS receivers to survey known points and judge how they perform
under the same conditions?
The concerns about exact constellations and exact conditions seemed to be getting a little too scientific.
I was waiting to read that someone wanted the moon in the Seventh House and Jupiter to align with Mars for the test.;)

How about incorporating some of this criteria testing in addition to the field survey of the points.

1. Test the ease of setup (both RTN and base - rover) to get up and running, start with the equipment in the truck shotgun start. (time the field survey start to finish)
(how many pieces of equipment are required to perform the survey).
2. Ability to add additional info (or lack of) for the surveyed points with photos, reports, screenshots etc. etc.
3. Test the ease of processing the data at the end of the survey (timed) how many solutions were obtained for each point, RTK and PPK. (redundancy)?
4. Test the stakeout capability, stake points in open, woods and stake line here.
5. Maybe even test localization in some manner.
5. Compare generated documentation of the survey when finished. (how points compare to traversed values, relative error report)

In my opinion (as a proud JAVAD owner) the whole notion about an apples to apples comparison between manufacturers is not really possible
and I tend to view this as a test of THEIR equipment, not ours.

Great idea. Would like to see it happen more often.
I have interest in regional user groups. We could occasionally get together to compare what we know (or don't know), make friends, share equipment, and etc.
Would love it (and request) that JAVAD, build a tool into this site that would allow us to see where units have been sold, and allow us to contact users close to us. I have requested this before. The request has not only not been acted on, but it has been totally ignored by the JAVAD team.

We need a tool that the user populates the data into, and they show up on the existing Javad map, able to be viewed only by a registered user.

It is not my fear, but I would suspect that some people might feel that their gear could be hunted down by a thief, and may not appreciate Javad placing the equipment on a map.

I would like to add to this thread as a participant in the R10 Ls shoot out. I was the Trimble guy there with the R10. We all had a great time and I think it is fair to say we (both the Trimble users and the LS users) were very surprised to see that they both performed nearly identical in all the shots collected. I was extremely surprised to see the R10 keep up the the LS and likewise I think the LS users were pleased to see that the LS is just as good, or better than a Trimble and only half the price! I am a true believer in the Javad-LS ! Thanks guys
