Direction for _AVG

I am a field cogo guy. I like cogo in the field. While data collecting.
I draw a sketch as I go, or write point numbers on a USGS, with deed lines drawn on it.

So, a work flow might go like this:
Go to Section corner, stay there for 10 mins, shoot it 5x, and Average the points. So, point 42_AVG gets written on the field cheet sheet.
Then, go to next corner. Same deal. Next corner, same deal. Now, I tell the LS to average the clusters.
We wind up with 3 clusters.
Next, we (using these average cluster points) calc a few more, and using stake, we metal detect, and go to them. Shoot them. More clusters.

With a work flow like this, It'd be nice to be able to use another name for the average point name. Like just the point number av. With it being case sensitive, it wants me to key it in just right, for further cogo. And, when I get home, I have used the Average Clusters 3 times, in the field. So, (because it continues to USE the averaged point clusters, to Re average the clusters already made, I have to delete all the _AVG points, and then re-make the _AVG points, (So that there is only one AVERAGE point for that shot.)

If there was a little set up screen, to set the nomenclature for averaged points.
And, Cluster would have the option to SKIP previous clusters, OR it could re-average previous clusters, (for those return visits, where we shoot a point multiple times, with a time separation. But, it it can update the previous avg point.

IF you return to a prev cluster, and shoot it, then it could UPDATE the cluster average point, it would save steps.
Using the cluster Averaging, we are winding up with Total Station Accuracy, in the woods.....
So, I'm trying to add direction, with ideas, for the Cluster AVG program.

I will also say, that I am often getting 2 days of work done in a day, compared to my old GPS system.

My work flow is similar to yours.

I will use cluster average and put them in a separate page. When I calc other corners and fine them, I will shoot them in a separate page so I can isolate them and only average the new points. I put those newly averaged points in the same averaged page.

I do like the idea of maybe adding a specific number to the first point in the averaged cluster (I.e. Point 100 averaged becomes 1100). I manually renumber the averaged points so they will import into my CAD program.

I have been working with the LS now for about 6 mos. I have a thought. For some jobs, I want to make my own worksheets as I work. And, compute the final boundary as I work.
How hard would it be, to make your average points as you go? Part of the deal of efficient surveying is to NEVER have to return to a given point. Would it be too hard to put an option to IGNORE previous _avg points? meaning, I shoot a point 2-5x, average them, and write down the point name, and now, I can do field cogo, with that point value finalized? I have found that when I re visit a point, and re tie it, I'd LIKE an option to pop up, that says "Cluster found, View Cluster Y/N"
After viewing it, then you can:
"Fd cluster, Update Avg point Y/N? Make New Avg Point YN? Or Ignore Cluster Y/N? If you ignore it, you can always go back and get do it, as a group.

The idea is efficiency, where we only make one trip to the field.

I am just bringing this up for discussion.

I am sure others will have ideas too.

Thank you,

Nate, I generally do cluster average before doing any field calculations. I tell it to put the averaged points on a separate page and add a prefix of 1 to the beginning point numbers. This way I can isolate the averaged points from the regular shot points. Not sure if this would work for you but it does work well for me.
