I HAD a really good idea. (I thought)

How about installing a rotating laser, on the side of the pole, to strike a bright laser line, (Line is in the vertical plane) onto the ground.
I have a quick disconnect, that looks like this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/brand-new-G...-Topcon-Trimble-Leica-Surveying-/171758847177
I want the rotating laser light to be attached to the side of the quick disconnect. I want it to strike a bright colored line, out in front of the LS, for some 20-50 feet. And, I want it to strike a line BEHIND the LS the same.
Now, if I have a little adjuster to fine adjust it, I can tell it to STAKE another visable point, and set it so that it is coincident with the LS.
Now, I can point the laser pointer, pointing at a pipe, in a huge tree clump. And, (using a bipod and pole) I now have a STRAIGHT line, from the pipe, on the ground, through the LS, and back some 20 or so feet. Walk back there, and stick a nail in the ground. Now, I have a straight line offest. Measure dist to monument in clump, and I'm done.
Or
When setting corners, and VERIFIED fixes are slow... and the corner to be set is right up against a tree...
Set the LS within 10 ft of corner to be set. Get verified fix. Az and dist is 123° 5.51'
Now, turn on the laser pointer. Measure with box tape, and we have a way to do this very fast. Of course, the laser will be offset the width of the pole... but that's easily handled enough. This would be handy for corner sets, when moving up is very poor, or setting the corner correctly is a challenge, because of rocky soil.

So, I went to ALL the local (Hot Springs AR) building supply stores, and could not find anything suitable. I even had it figured out how to attache it beneath the LS.

But I could not fine one that was suitable.

This is the sort of thing I'm looking for. But one, that rotates a full 360°, or at least 180°, casting it's line DOWN, on the ground.

I still think it is a good idea, but Getting one that's bright enough... and that will be trouble free... hmmm has me maybe even giving it up. Maybe someday.
Not today..

Anyway, what do you think? Good idea? or can you think of a good laser to install? Something to CAST a vertical line, to the front, seems handy. Especially, in low light situations...
