Here is the story. (gotta keep it fun!) I have been surveying in the rain. Not just rain, but pouring rain. And, in the snow, about a month ago. We worked through while about 4" fell.
Well, A Javad LS has a few weak points. I am not sure EXACTLY why, but one of them is the internal UHF antenna. So, after a few yrs use, RANGE is diminished. So, I put the external antenna on. Well and good. In the pouring rain, it gets wet. So do I . I even had a ripped seat cover on the Polaris 850. So, every time I sit, I get a new load of wet on my bottom. Yeah. So, All this wet has resulted in a little problem with the UHF SMA PORT on the left side of the LS. Now, on the UHF antenna, there is a little stud, in the middle. It sticks out, and goes into a small tube, on the LS. So, I guess the stud is the male end, and the female end is on the LS. Well, the whole tube on the LS came out a couple of days ago. I put it back in, and it has not worked since. (I'm told that Javad et al has become aware that this is a weak link, and has gone to installing TOUGHER SMA connectors in the LS) I sure hope so.
So, I sent my LS to 900 rock AVE, San Jose, CA. on Friday. now, this LS has alot of miles on it. And, I am attached to it. It's all set up how I like it. It is an LS PLUS.
So, now have a loaner LS, from another surveyor, who just happens to have 2 of them. But, ALAS! it is an LS MINUS! Or, LS Standard. So, Now, I must use the LS Standard, with a Triumph 3.
Well, I wish we had names for all the screens. On the collect, and just to the RIGHT of the "BACK" Button, and to the left of the COMPASS button, Click this. Now, at the bottom of the screen, in the middle, is a button. Then, 3 buttons pop up.
Top one: GPS-GLO 6 engine
Middle one: GPS+GLO+GAL+BDS 6 Engine
Bottom One: GPS+GLO+GAL+BDS 2 Engine
It seems that I have been using the middle one. (With the LS+)
So, I got it all up and running. then, switched to the Top one. And, my radio quit. So, I worked on it, (In the rain, I might add) But, I was in a tent. So, it was damp, but not wet!
What I discovered, is that you should NOT change between these settings, while you are up and connected to the base. Disconnect. Change it. Re start your base.
OK, Thats out of the way.
Now, should I use the Top one?
And, it seems that the variety counter, stays at zero too?
Any other changes?
Thank you,
Nate
