I have my BOUNDARY profile set to Record GNSS raw data, all the time.
So, what this means, is that IF the RTK procedure takes 4 minutes, the I have a PPK file, that is 4 minutes long. If I do this 3 times, then, I have 12 minutes worth of GNSS data. In 3 sessions.
Now, if these were all in ONE file, I think it would generate a BETTER solution, than 3 individual files. I am an old "GPS abuser" (of sorts) pushing the limits.
I have a L1 Ashtech Locus file, that is over 36 hrs long. It only generated a FLOAT solution! It was on a Section corner. It was ESSENTIAL that I get that shot that day...even if it was a few feet off. So I just left the GPS out all night, and picked them up, on the way out, the next day.
Later, I used the Total station, and reshot it. It was 0.01' off!!!
So, even though it said FLOAT, it actually had resolved it. I later got a better version of Ashtech Solutions, and would have been able to "Clean" that data, by trimming out the bad data. And, It probably would have said FIXED.
But, this was only after having my locus units for 2 mos or so.
(I also got a shot by a metal chicken house, that NEVER really was any good, but that is another story!)
So, my question is: "Is a single 12 minute file better than 3, 4 minute files?"
I think it is. But that is based on my experience. The idea is that the trajectory of the satellite is un interrupted. An un interrupted Satellite stream, seems to yield higher precision.
Right or wrong?
