On Collect, and Stake

Yesterday, I was out in an area, where multipath was kinda bad... (I have a magnet in me, to find those) and was using Stake to find a corner. When I found it, I started the observation, while still in stake mode. (So I could see how close my calc position was to the monument I found) well, it rocked on, and nothing... So, I walked to the truck, and got prepared to go to other corners. Came back, and it had cycled through, but apparently had a jump fail. So, I went to the collect side, and pressed start. So, now we have BOTH SIDES Collect and Stake, running at once. FINALLY, I got a shot. took another 10 mins. I saved it. Since I have a record survey, and the tie is not critical to my survey, but is for the purpose of getting a good tie into other survey points... I walk off. Get to the field, and got to STAKE, and low and behold, my previous stake is still running!
Hmmm. I finally got it shut down. ( took me a bit to figure out, as my mind was distracted)
Put it back in STAKE mode, to take me to the next search location.
Then, my brain started cooking.
Why do we have SEPARATE Collect, and Stake?
Why not combine these?
Are they not used all the time together?
MOST of the time, when staking a point, we just want to GET TO THE RIGHT PLACE, and then store it.
MOST of the time, when collecting a point, we want to know where we are, RELATIVE to something.

So, I propose, that with Javad LS GENERATION 2, or Generation 3, (Of course I can dream, I don't have the enormous financial investment, that it takes to make one of these!) Have a LARGER screen. Maybe 1.75 times bigger. And, since that changes other things, Why not make the bottom shaped like the end of a football?
I got mine hung on a low hanging telephone line the other day. The little button feet on the bottom, helped keep it attached to the telephone line. I was on the ATV, driving to a corner, through a yard, and it pulled the rod up... I got it stopped. Minor damage to the bottom of the LS. The bottom could be streamlined, so that it would not hang up on briars. Nearly all travel through the woods, it goes Pole first... so streamlining the bottom would be good. It would not sit on a desk well, but, it could have a cradle, or a flat spot, at an angle, so it would sit. Move the light out away from the pole. So, it illuminates the bubble real good.

Move the Down Facing camera, out away from the pole too. Add a little rubber bumper to it also, around the top, with an integrated rain gutter, or flap so IN CASE we drop it, (God Forbid!) I have not done it yet... but it happens. In fact, wind blew my old unit over, and that precipitated my purchase of the LS. John Evers shows Pics of his Gorrila ice diving skills, that tore up his LS a bit...

Fully combining STAKE and COLLECT makes sense to me.
The separation of them, comes from TOTAL STATION, angle, and Distance Philosophy, or heritage.

This could simplify the LS. Nearly always, while we collect, we want to know where we are. Nearly always when we stake, we want to collect something.

I'm just musing. Not complaining. Just musing. I have more RAIN Pics to post. IMG_4114sml.jpg I had stuffed a Ziplock bag in my pocket, and I tied that to the LS, (Amish Bonnet!) Ha ha. It worked pretty good.

I hope all of you have a great day. I know I will.

How I got going down this road, (Combining Collect and Stake being combined) Is fundamentally, these 2 items are the same... If we could push ONE button, and flash between STK ACTION, and COLLECT ACTION, was my first thought. AND combine the data collection feature... as in, if you change from the STK side to the collect side, then the SAME collect engine is running. As it is, it seems that there are 2 engines... one on each side. I don't think this is good.

Then, as I thought further, why not put STK into collect, with the white boxes.

Then, I thought, that would require MORE white boxes. Then, I thought, more screen space needed. I realize, this concept is self perpetuating. Then, I said, I'm dreaming. So, cost is not a barrier... So I said, ok, lets combine these, add white boxes, and, we pretty soon had a BIGGER box.

For now, I guess, I have a question. Are there 2 engines, one on the collect side, and one on the Stake side? If not, then this engine should be the same one we see, if we change sides. I think.
Anyway. I can only imagine, with this will be like in 10 years!
