rapid static

I would like to set up my ls for doing rapid static....am doing a boundary job in the mountains...want to navigate just using the ls...without a base set up.. to where I believe a monument is...then search for monument...if found..set triumph 2 over it and log data to be sent to dpos....my questions are as follows:
1. Do I need to setup a new setup screen just for rapid static and how.
2.how long do I need to occupy...
3.will the ls navigate without being connected to the base
4.can I stake out and collect a point while floating...not connected to base

1. Do I need to setup a new setup screen just for rapid static and how.

You can use default Stand-Alone setup preloaded in the LS. The main requirement is that you have Position Accuracy set to "Accept all":

2.how long do I need to occupy...

If you are under tree canopy you will probably need at least 10 minute observations. In the open 5 minutes may be sufficient. If the tree canopy is heavy and the CORS stations are far away you may never get good results. I would not trust a solution from DPOS that has a RMS greater than 3 cm. When in doubt observe the point multiple times as a check.

3.will the ls navigate without being connected to the base

Yes

4.can I stake out and collect a point while floating...not connected to base

You will have standalone positions. A float position requires corrections from a base station. You can stake and collect points but obviously they will only have standalone level accuracy.

I agree with everything Matt posted, except for the time on site. I believe this is probably very sensitive to the CORS geometry surrounding the site. I've not been able to get reliable solutions with less than 15 minutes in my area.

Also regarding time on site, the surveyor should consider other factors, such as the difficulty in returning to the site should the solutions be unreliable. In other words, if you collect for 15 minutes, pushing the envelope on your static processing, and the solution does not fix, then how much time will a return trip cost? Investing an additional 15 minutes on site on the first visit may save a couple of hours of repeating the observation. This is particularly true of remote locations.

Collecting in canopy is a difficult to pin down. There are so many variables. I would likely collect for an hour or more in canopy. I would add more time given the condition above regarding return trips. Besides Jim, you're working in the mountains, let the Triumph do the collecting and enjoy the views and mountain air, and think of me in humid, hot Texas!
