SIM card setup problems

Sorry to hijack the discussion, but this is really a simple question - I'm getting my SIM card setup, and all I did is pop the card out of the AT&T hotspot, pop it into the Card 1 slot, and power up the LS. It connects to the internet and seems to work just fine. I didn't change any settings. Is that all there is to it, or is there some settings to change? It's online and connecting to the RTN.
Good point Aaron now that I think of it that's all I did when I received my system and sim card for the free LS trial.

If anyone of the 5pls want to take on more problems. Patric Malone in Hot Springs, AR. His LS is also having Sim card issues. He's not on this board and if he can find a way to make it work, which is what he is doing currently, he will choose to do it that way. Last I spoke with him. He told me that he was waiting on the Linux update for his fix.

Other than inserting the card upside down and reversed :confused:, once Matt straightened me out, it wouldn't lock into the slot itself. After about the 30th try (maybe 40th), it suddenly held and I assure you that that SIM has become a permanent part of the LS hardware. Or, at least I'm not removing it.

Sims are very delicate and difficult and should always be inserted and removed with tweezers. Adam's other suggestion/question is important. The sim card/data plan has to be set up as data only/tablet on the ATT, or provider side. I have three plans/sims that the local provider store swore were tablet/data plans - the one for my LS was set up as a phone plan and I fought with it for a while. The plan had to be changed at the provider side to data only/tablet to function.

Thanks for the comments, Ralph. In my case the SIM card came directly from SmartNet and is an ATT card configured for rover use. For anyone lucky enough to be in a state with SmartNet coverage, they are now offering something called SmartConnect which is a SIM card for $24.95/month. You don't have to be a network subscriber to use the cheap SIM option. I don't know what a SIM costs in other areas, but in New England both Verizon and ATT charge $50/mth, so the SmartConnect option is a bargain.

Sure thing Patrick. I think the minimum ATT plan here is 15/month. The nice secret is that rtn streaming uses very little data and is usually well under the smallest plan on it's own. The nc rtn is very nice but I am working on a Javad base for my LS.

$15 is amazing, at least based on what ATT is charging up here. For Javad LS work I'll be switching between RTK and RTN, depending on field conditions and what I'm locating. Like NC the MA CORS network is pretty robust.

Every now and then I'm doing urban work near Boston, and now having to worry about that base & radio (if I'm using RTN) should be a pleasure. ;)
