Staking line

While staking a line in canopy, you tend to get a lot float showing jumps of distance to line by several feet without even moving. When the green starts showing those distances tend hang around a bit till it kinda settles down. I understand the float distances. So you finally settle on the point is close enough to the line and you hit start to record a point. Now I want to see how far off the line the recorded point is in relation to the line. Which of the Offset routine and in what mode do you use to see that relationship before you move on? Steep hillside canopy and float causes a non-warm and fuzzy feeling. Mike

When I am staking line I get as close as I can with float and then hit start and let it start weeding out the bad fixes. I have one white box that gives me the station along the line and a white box that gives me the offset. As long as I am within 10' of line, I will measure over with a box tape and set the stake and move on.
