In the above rover scenario, all my internal UHF/GSM are off, I use only Wi-Fi client, so theoretically the green antenna tube is not required. However, I want to protect the receiver's UHF/GSM antenna connector from inside the 5/8-11" receiver mounting thread, against screwing a surveying pole (or anything else) without an axial hole in the upper threaded part.
After some PPK/RTK testing situations, (simple pole / pole+green antenna tube), I have chosen up the UHF/cellular antenna mount (additional gain in height for the receiver), useful in certain situations with some tall obstructions;
I only use a small adapter (with hole) for static/RTK tripod data collection.
