Using my radio as a repeater

I have a T3 and a 35w radio. I've noticed some settings to allow me to turn on the T3 internal radio and set the 35w up in a better position as a repeater. Can someone give me a quick run down of the setup procedure? Thanks and Happy New Year.

You can try this.

Check the option "Use with Repeater"

Set the broadcast rate to 2 seconds.

You will need to put the radio that will be used as the repeater in "Simplex Transmitter to Repeater" mode. This can be done with ModemVU software. You will need to run it as an administrator to be able to connect to a radio.

In the UHF configuration screen in the LS change the RX mode to Receive from Repeater.

To check if it is working properly look at the UHF status screen. BER should be 0. In the RTCM screen the received packets should be ticking up while lost packets should not be increasing.

So, you have to have special software to set this up? We only plan to use as a repeater on trips to one particular project. Do we have to hook the radio up to this software every time we want to go back to the normal 'non repeater' setup? Sound's like a lot of opportunities to forget a setting and be dead in the water to me...

Thanks.

Thank you. Does my field hand have to use a computer in the field to get this setup as a repeater? There is no way to set it up without Modem Vu?

I use a rugged laptop to change the settings in the field. I bought a refurbished Dell for this. It's waterproof and drop resistant.
We've had issues with getting the repeater to work consistently. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Which radio are you using for the repeater? If you are using a HPT435BT you can configure it to repeat the corrections on a 2nd frequency. It should operate more reliably this way I think.

We are using the T3 with 1 watt base to send corrections and the HPT435BT as the repeater.
We did send on a different frequency from the 435.
It will work sometimes, sometimes not. Since it was inconsistent, we haven't tried in a year or so.
John Evers helped us get the settings right.
