I use a fixed rod height most of the time set up with the option of getting a direct height reading off the graduations on the pole if I raise it to find better signal conditions etc.
I take the L.S. off the pole and place it on a monument and tape the height in some cases.
Sometimes you don't know the height until you have raised and lowered the rod to find the sweet spot for the signals and the L.S. may be too high to enter the rod.
It would save keystrokes and incorrect rods and point elevations from not changing the rod back to fixed, If there were a box designated for custom rod height only that would only work for one shot and then the normal rod height would return on the next shot.
After lowering the rod and before the shot is accepted you have the opportunity to enter the custom height and accept the shot.
If there is a way to do this already let me know.
