I have used the backpack on one job so far. I have added to it, a 4" thinwall PVC tube, for the rebar.
I kinda wish it had a zipper pouch, to hold small stuff. Such as cigarette lighter, pk nails, and another to hold rebar caps.
I have installed a plastic coffee container (Blue plastic Folgers kind) in the bottom of one of the three semi pouches, (main area) to catch stuff. But, I'm maybe going to wind up with some sort of PVC container, like the rebar one, for misc stuff, so it won't ever fall out.
I have ordered a Smart Tip. (Yay!) It is so ACADEMIC to want one of these...
HOW many times, have I walked back 100 yards, to the ATV, to get my Shonstedt Pistol, because it was NOT with me?
So, I'm wanting a little place on the backpack for the Smart tip. And, maybe a place for the wire to charge it in the field. Maybe even a place for Thumb drives., with the wire.
I just ordered 2 more T-Post steppers. These things: http://www.t-poststepper.com/
Now, they come unpainted, dry aluminum. So, I painted mine, and added a wire, to TIE it to the backpack. (Loss prevention).
I am "Moving into" the backpack.
As I do it, these things come to mind.
The backpack is a great idea. Surveyors are PERPETUAL cobblers... I know I am. Get something, modify it... hey, even my plat style is not like others. I am sure I will have other ideas. However, it is an excellent idea. Think about it, every time you "Go back to the truck for something", that could have been in the backpack.
I've decided on a claw hammer for the pounding tool, to go into the pack. This gives me a DIGGING tool, and a pounding tool, in one. I know, you are not supposed to dig holes with a claw hammer. But, my dad won't see me! (Ha ha)
I'm going to use it for a few months, then I'll see what next.
Ain't it great, to get to use the BEST GPS gear in the world?
Funnest thing I've ever done.
