Cogo: point to line

Here is a suggestion that I have regarding Cogo: Offsets: To Line 1

Would it be possible to add a "left" or "right" designation to the offset distance result? We need to know which side of the line the offset is on and if the offset distance is small and the line is long, then you have to spend quite a bit of time zooming in on the map to tell which side of the line the point in question is on. Normally, the left/right designation would be from "standing on P1, looking at P2". This would greatly help! This may already have been taken care of, but I thought I would mention it just in case.

Thanks,

I would like to see a Bearing or Azimuth to the P.O.L. from the offset point which would be the other piece of data from an inverse, the offset distance being shown already.

Andrey,
If you stand on P1 and face P2, is P3 on the right or the left of this line? (Joe's Request)

What is the direction (Azimuth or Bearing) from P3 to P4? (Sean's Request)

Also, in the graphic, perhaps we could auto zoom the screen to fit P3 and P4 with P1 and P2 potentially far off of the screen. This way the user sees where P3 is in relation to the line.

This has been completed in the latest testing version of J-Field. The left/right arrow beside the offset distance indicates the direction P3 is offset from the line.

I will try to add direction and bearing as soon as possible and ask for Sergey to check auto zoom.

Andrey, the consensus seems to be that most everyone would prefer to see the left/right designation indicated by text rather than the current arrows. Maybe also consider making 2 diagrams for the 2 cases, one that shows P3 offset on the left and the other showing it offset on right (current diagram).

In the example graphic above, what do the dashed grey arrow and the circular grey arrow around P3 signify?

This is to show the bearing (B) or azimuth is measured from north in a clockwise direction and is similarly shown in some of the other CoGo diagrams:

This has been discussed some in the past but never changed. My strong preference is that it would be shown like this in the CoGo diagrams:

Maybe others can weigh in and give their options.

Unless I'm looking at things wrong, in the screenshot the bearing given is for the line P1 to P2, whereas the "B and arrow" in Matt's doctored image suggests that the bearing is from P3 to P4.
