Data collection settings (Collect Points)

I have discovered that the GENERAL settings, preferred by Shawn Billings, and those preferred by John Evers are NOT the same. Settings I am referring to are all the settings accessed behind the compass button.

So, I have factored in the following: John Evers is working in a different type of foliage, than Billings. Also, some here are working in Alaska. Again, different foliage, and different sky coverage. (Closer to north pole) I suspect I could learn a bunch from this, IF I knew a bit more about this.

So, could I get some of the more experienced users to give the settings that they use.
So, I'll define some general environments, and you post the settings you would commonly use for that environment. Some of the replies to this have to be somewhat subjective, due to the definitions of what I call a hole, and what others call a hole may differ.

1.) Parking lot. Improvements. (Lift and Tilt)
2.) Improvements Mild woods, 2 trees, maybe 40' tall, and 40' away, on opposing sides of the CP (Collection Point) Maybe woods topo.
3.) Thick woods Improvements. topo.
4.) Improvements in HOLE. This is in a valley, or ravine. Where is is just impossible, (with other brands)

Then, the second list is SAME as above, BUT they are boundary points. That is, higher accuracy is needed.
The B designation mean BOUNDARY markers, such as pipe, rebar, or other survey marks. For both STAKE and collect.

1B.) Parking lot.
2B.) Mild woods
3B.) Heavy woods
4B.) The Hole

Another factor I consider is the satellite geometry. Good Sat coverage, and geometry is always important in # 3 and # 4.

This is intended to kick off my education of how to get up to speed ASAP. Maybe someday these could be made into buttons, behind the compass button. So we can set up all these settings, on the fly. That is, a user could DEFINE all the settings into those 4 buttons. Just so he can go fast between those environments.

Sometimes I am getting topo in mild woods, every 50' a shot. Then, I come to a boundary monument. So, I go to a more rigorous setting. Shoot that boundary point. Then, back to a more relaxed setting.

I'm getting too wordy. But if you'd put your own words into this, it might be better.
Thanks!
Nate (the kid in the candy store!)

For boundary markers in areas where there is multipath I would always recommend the following settings as a minimum:

These settings are with 5 Hz corrections, with 1 Hz Stop After can be changed to 120 epochs. I have done a lot of testing in areas with high multipath and Non-Line of Sight signals. I've never been able to get a bad solution with the RTK engines being reset with 2 minutes between resets (Verify and Validate).

In open areas leaving Verify and Validate on does usually not increase the time it takes to collect a point much with 5 Hz so I will often leave them on but reduce the number of epochs that are required. Another option would be to turn off Verify and Validate and increase the number of required engines to 5 or 6.

Matt, it would be cool to have the quick setup screen shown above included in the setup screen so these values can be saved and recalled quickly. I find it strange that these are not included in the regular set up screen. The quick set up screen isnt so quick when you have to change each value, everytime you swap from topo to control or boundary. Thanks Adam

Also It would be cool if Javad could provide some default set-ups, that could be something like Matt's preferred topo settings in heavy canopy or John's preferred control settings for clear ski. I love to use all of the 5 PLS's setups and tweak them to my workflow. Is this possible?

Sorry, I have had my unit for a while but havent got to use it enough yet to figure it out. The keyboard automatically being cap's seems backward, I would prefer it to stay in caps or stay in lowercase when I select one of the two.

Clarification, I meant the keyboard defaulting to caps for the first letter than changing to lowercase

Being able to save and recall collect settings is on the to do list.

I use what Matt has for boundary except me being me I have for 5 Hz 900 epochs(180x5), max groups of 3, confidence at 7, and consistency at 20. For 1 Hz all same but 180 for epochs. I really have no real in depth reason for my settings and I am one that still repeats the observation on boundary points after at least 15 minutes. Used to have 4 observations total, 2 at different heights then time gap and 2 more at different heights and of course resetting engine between shots, but now 2 shots total with time gap and height change, some old habits die hard. Enjoy Nate it has been a great experience for me!!

For commonly used descriptions like these you should try using codes instead of descriptions. The description field can then be reserved for entering additional information if necessary. See https://support.javad.com/index.php?threads/points-list.1176/#post-10140

I have tried codes a few times, I haven't figured out how to make this work with Carlson offices field to finish. How can I use codes and tags in j field and have it export the code and tag as a description in Carlson?

Is there a way to lock the caps or lowercase and it stay locked?

Actually I was wrong. If you turn on the caps lock by pressing the arrow until it changes to the down arrow it will remain with the caps lock on.

It may be better to consider changing the icon to be an up arrow with a line under it similar to iOS and Android keyboards:

and also to enable it with a double click instead of an additional click.
