Internal antenna issue??

Hello Bill, please advise the J-Field version you are running on the board of TRIUMPH-LS now. We will doublecheck if switching between internal and external antennas works properly in this version.

You might also check that the output power for the radio is being applied correctly. He is showing a RSSI of -74dBm at 300'. What value would you expect at this distance for a 1W output with FHSS?

Hello Bill,

It seems, that there is an issue related to antenna switching in J-Field 3.0.5.287 . In order to switch the antenna to external, please follow the instructions below:

  1. In Radio Configuration screen select Antenna Input: External, apply.
  2. In the same screen Power Off, then Power On the radio.

This seems to be making a difference. At a distance at which the internal could no longer receive, using the steps above seems to activate my external antenna reception and I was able to receive. Thank you Armen!
I am cautiously optimistic as right now I can't get a decent position fix. I don't know if it is time of day with poor satellite positioning or the heavy overcast and steady misting rain.
Will try again later.

Back to this problem again. Had good radio reception for about a month, then it dropped off for no apparent reason. Went back to the same spot that we had reception previously and now don't receive.
The external antenna was showing wear and had been taped around the swivel joint to keep it upright so I ordered an new antenna. This did not help.
Our reception is back down to only about 700', which is severely limiting.
Any ideas on what may be happening?

I had a similar issue with mine, although I am running 2 LS's. Sent the base LS in for diagnostics and turned out that I needed to have my FHSS radio replaced. Once I got it back it worked like a champ. Was able to get several thousand feet from it recently in some terrible terrain.

Thanks for the response Wes. That's what I am afraid may be the issue. Even though we are struggling to use it now, I hate to send it in for repair and be without it.

Totally understand that. Have you tried TCP? It's my preference for RTK work. Normally only use the radio's when there's no reliable cell service.

It took about a month to get mine repaired and back. I'd imagine it might take longer right now with the Covid-19 issues.

Hello Bill,

We suggest to investigate the problem remotely, therefore please connect the Triumph-LS to the RAMS by following the steps:

1. Connect the Triumph-LS to the Internet(if possible via Ethernet).
2. Go to Support->Remote Assistance, set password and tap on Connect button.
3. E-mail us both the password and the serial number of Triumph-LS.
4. We will connect from T-LS to Base via Bluetooth, so make sure that the Base station is powered on and it is located up to 3 meters from T-LS.

Note: we recommend to use external power supplies for all devices.
