I would like the highlighted text to disappear when I tap a letter or number, if I type a space the highlighted text should remain and the curser appear after the space. Tapping clr is the extra tap that shouldn't be needed.

Overtype mode was just implemented in the latest development version of J-Field so it will be available soon:

In the latest "Development" version of the keyboard you can see the layout for the four "smart" buttons to be implemented. For now (temporarily) four words are hard coded there. Later they will be dynamically changed according to the latest entered values, estimate of up to four versions of what you may want to enter based on dictionary that you have entered before, location, and other information that we will explore.
Stay tuned.

I think it looks good so far. We probably only need this keyboard for the description field.

I see the letter case symbols were changed but it still isn't quite the same as iOS and Android keyboards. Here is what it should be:

upload_2015-11-13_12-57-1.png
CAPS LOCK MODE IS ENABLED

upload_2015-11-13_12-58-20.png
Only the first letter is capitalized

keyboard is in lowercase mode, tapping once will cause the next letter to be capital, double tapping (2 rapid taps) switched to caps lock

we never need the down arrow icon

For the smart boxes my suggestion would be to populate them with the text used for the last used 4 descriptions. When you start typing it then searches for previously used descriptions that match the string that has been typed. The other option would be for it to just present options for single words rather than entire lines of previously used descriptions but I prefer the 1st option.

It is on the works to change the color of this button and the INS button to show the "status" and not the "action".

Also we plan to move the "language" button to the "#+=" screen. We will have one button to use for other functions or for another symbol. Who has any suggestion for this extra button? A symbol? An action?

As I wrote earlier, the four previously entered values will only be the default values when user comes to keyboard. But when user starts to type something different (does not want previously entered values), we will search dictionary and search from other words that has entered before. If we cannot decide on anything, we may add date and time and any other items not to leave the buttons blank as much as we can.

If I could highlight text, I would be able to selectively delete part of it, instead of all of it, as Clr forces me to.

I would also be able to replace part of it, and the Ins key could also be replaced.

I may be wrong, but I believe you are using Accept instead of Accept As. When using Accept As, press the Accept As button INSTEAD OF Accept.
