New changes and options with new LS Plus

I've tried painlessly to try and figure out a way to upload a video to this page but I can't get anything to work - even though I've got the file size down to 5 & 6MB.

Anyway, I've sent them to my google drive and attached a link, so hopefully that'll work if anyone wants to try viewing them.

They are very short videos on what my LS+ has been doing all week, ever since I got it back after the upgrade.

On any point in canopy, the satellites constantly "come in" and "drop out" - from 7 to 25 on this instance. I have also continually gotten a consistent flash of a CDF solution and, in these videos, I'm only 100' from my base.

We have gotten "some" very impressive, difficult shots this week and the weather here has been terrible with lots of rain and wet leaves several days, but there's no way, I don't believe, with the number of satellites dropping in/out like this and the radio link somehow going out in "patches", that things are functioning correctly.

I am using T1M bases (have tried 2 different ones) and none of this behavior happens with those bases and a non plus LS on standard GPS/Glonass firmware. Of course, there is a usual up down of satellites on that firmware of say, 8/11 or 9/12, but nothing like what I'm seeing on the plus unit.

In one of the videos, also notice my Hz count of the upsampling. It is staying at 1/5 very little on the plus unit. Most times it is at 1/4 or 1/3, even though I've "dialed down" the total number of signals to the recommended 43/33 setting (which in itself is a very confusing recommendation after just getting a processor and chip upgrade??)

Something is definitely not functioning properly with what I saw. I have had a few times that I was suspicious about behavior on my equipment since the upgrade, and a reboot of my LS has always returned performance to what I expect.

In fact, I almost never experience multiple buckets anymore.

I do not have my base available to me until late Tuesday.

Can you possibly set your gear up on Monday for me to take a look via RAMS?

The screen above comes up with a long press of the “auto setup engines”

What if a long press of the "auto setup engines" doesn't let this screen show up. Is there another route to get to this setting?

I don't know of another way. You might recalibrate your screen to see if it will get the longpress to cooperate. Press and hold the A/V button to recalibrate the screen.

If av long press does not work, there is usually some foreign matter, in the side of the screen. Sneaky.

My LS plus is on RAMS. operator - 3383. Password if I enabled it is dlc3383

It is in a very different spot under a tree, 25‘ from my T1M so you can go through base/rover setup if you wish.

Another issue I forgot to mention is Thursday I was only 1100’ from my T1M base and was getting a flashing red icon on radio. I clicked it and it said my “signal was weak, hook up external radio”.....I did and I STILL only had around 30% radio.
There’s been no issues and are no issues with this radio and/or base with my other non upgraded LS’s

With Matthew Sibole’s help and switching the maximum signals down to 38, it appears a good bit of the issues I’ve described are lessening. My upsampling numbers are holding quite well at 1/5 or 1/4 Hz.
Dialing in the correct number on the max signals seems to be the key to optimizing performance.
I’m still seeing just a few drops to CDF but they're less.

Not sure the answer but, there is a huge difference in the performance in the standard LS between the current release and the current prerelease. I assume this is true for the new LS. There is a new setting, if you long hold on "auto setup engines". The new setting is max signals. If I change it to 30 for the standard LS it almost never goes to cdf and it rocked it today in the mountains in full on canopy in old hardwoods.

Yes Adam, I have been adjusting the max signals frequently to hope to get my plus to stop going out to CDF quite often. My upsampling is also struggling to stay at 1/5Hz.
Matthew helped me Monday when we changed it to 38/33 but it returned with quite a vengeance today when I was in some very challenging terrain. It was going to ”no data” on the engine screen and showing CDF on the main screen very often even though I had my max signals down as low as 28/20.
There’s also something definitely going on with this pre release software and my UHF. I’m constantly getting a red flashing icon on the main screen....

Odd thing is, I’m only 1200’ from my base, on 35w radio and have 100% reception....


For craps and giggles, I got my external and screwed it on and changed to it but the LS wouldn't even find my base with it at all. I tried two different external antennas one of which is brand new.

Not saying something can’t be “wrong” with cables, connections, etc. in my 35w, but we’ve basically used it every day up to getting the Plus and it worked like a top, so I’d say the odds something to do with my radio having problems at exactly the time I get my Plus unit back are quite low.

I've seen troubles with uhf too. Not sure if it's related. I don't have an LS plus. Today I saw very good results with the standard LS and the latest prerelease. I have it set to core 1 20 and max signals 30.

That’s about the sweet spot it seems. We do have multiple units and multiple radios so I need to do a bit more testing between a couple of them to isolate that it is/isn’t specific to the Plus with pre release.....

I saw the same thing with the radio icon today when signal was just fine. I think some thresholds need to be adjusted.

Ive thought about just going back to straight 5Hz from the radio to take that part out of the LS, but I don’t really want to have to do that. Kinda thought that was the whole purpose of the 5k upgrade in processor and chip was to get “more power”.....

Have you tried clearing the nvram on the base. I did it this morning while I was having trouble. I noticed there was no gal or bdu. After clearing it and starting over it really worked the best I've seen in a while.

Probably have done that 20 times in the last two weeks.....

Did not reboot LS and try external again....will try that next time it happens
